A selection of cool programs for Linux
Audacious - music player
Let's start with a selection of players. For those who are not very fond of bulky modern audio players, Audacious is a great solution. The main feature of the player is two interfaces: GTK and skinned, between which you can switch. A wide range of functions in the player is achieved thanks to plugins. In most cases, a useful set of plugins comes with the player. This set includes plug-ins for MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC and Monkey's Audio formats.
For classic music lovers, it's perfect. I installed the Winamp skin, turned on MAKSIM and got my 2007 back.
Clementine music player
Also quite popular is the Clementine music player.
The player is quite old, and the last stable version was released as far back as 2016. But the work on the player has not stopped, pre-release versions are released regularly. Clementine player still retains its popularity.
The player's library allows you to work with both phonolibraries and folders. It is possible to create playlists.
The player is packed with a sea of advanced options. You can get just about everything from a visual and equalizer to a built-in music transcoding tool that allows you to convert your audio files to 7 audio formats. Clementine also allows you to search and play music files backed up on cloud platforms such as OneDrive, Google Drive and DropBox for online music.
An interesting feature is the control via your smartphone. This requires the installation of a special application from the Play Market.
Rhythmbox - music player
I personally prefer the standard player for many Linux distributions - Rhythmbox. It's a pretty good application that will suit not the most demanding user. It has a simple and pleasant interface, and at the same time it has enough functionality.
It supports working with playlists including m3u format. Rhythmbox supports working with digital radio stations and it is possible to create your own online radio playlist. Also in this player you can listen to podcasts. I personally use it on any of my distributions.
Spotify is a streaming service
Well, for those who like to listen to music online for Linux Spotify is also available.
There is nothing much to tell here, Spotify service is very popular, the application is available on all platforms, so enjoy your favorite music on any system.
Celluloid (MPV) - multimedia player
From audio players let's move to video. Perhaps the most popular and easy to use is MPV. MPV is characterized by extremely fast speed of work, so for weak machines it is the number one choice. It plays all popular file types, supports multiple audio tracks and subtitles.
To say that this player has a concise interface, nothing to say. The interface here is minimal from the word "minimal", and this is only good for the player. And what do we need from a player to work quickly and play all files. For me it is a clear choice for Linux.
Besides, the player is cross-platform and available for Windows and MacOS.
VLC - media player
Another very popular media player for Linux users is of course VLC.
VLC is a free and free cross-platform media player and open source media platform. The player plays a variety of multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs and network broadcasts.
I remember the days when VLC was wildly popular on Windows. But mass preferences have changed over time. On Linux, however, the popularity of this program has not diminished at all.
Transmission - BitTorrent client
As far as BitTorrent clients are concerned, I will single out two of them, Transmission, which has a minimalistic interface. Transmission, unlike many other BitTorrent clients, uses a small amount of system resources, due to which it has attracted the attention of embedded device manufacturers, it is less functional than other clients. However, it has all the necessary basic features.
qBittorrent - BitTorrent client
Next we have a contender for the title of the best program for downloading torrents - qBittorrent. This program is very similar to its main competitor uTorrent - it has the same functions, also does not load the computer and memory. The interface of the program is extremely simple and minimalistic, which is required for software of this kind. In the settings of the program there is a Russian language, so there will be no difficulties with mastering. The program has a function of sequential download and preview files. So you can start watching a movie right at the time of downloading.
In addition to the usual functions qBittorrent has its own search. So you can find the files you need without the help of a browser. And all this is free and without advertising. qBittorrent is available on Linux, MacOS and Windows operating systems.
Flameshot - capture screenshots
For easy screenshots in Linux there is a great program called FlameShot.
With this program you can not only quickly take a picture of the screen or a fragment of it, but also make necessary notes, add highlights and so on.
This can be especially useful for creating online tutorials. The resulting screenshot can also be saved to a file, copied to the clipboard or placed in cloud storage. All in all, FlameShot is indeed a very handy and useful program. Besides, it exists for Linux, Windows and MacOS as well.
Simple Screen Recorder - Screen Capture
For screen recording in Linux, Simple Screen Recorder is a great program.
It is a feature-rich, powerful screen recorder that supports X11 and OpenGL. It can record all or part of the screen or record OpenGL applications directly. Recording can be paused and resumed at any time. Many different file formats and codecs are supported.
The interface is as concise and clear as possible. There are all the necessary settings for video and audio recording quality. I record my Linux desktop with this program.
OBS Studio - Screen Capture
Well, for those who want something more serious, and screen record and stream at leisure there is OBS Studio. Quite popular free program for video recording and streaming. To tell about it in detail is hardly worth it, because I think that many people use it on Windows. So, it is also available for Linux, keep it in mind.
Video Downloader - download videos from YouTube
Next we have a mini program for downloading videos from YouTube.
Video Downloader is a really convenient and simple downloader of videos from YouTube, fast and clear and completely free. There is nothing superfluous in the program, everything is simple and convenient. Just paste the link, just choose the audio or video you want to download, choose the quality and click download. And that's it, we don't need anything else.
Evolution is a mail client.
Among the mail clients for Linux, in addition to the ubiquitous Thunderbird, there is the Evolution organizer mail client. Besides being a mail client, Evolution offers contact management, calendar, to-do lists, notes and other organizer functions.
The program's capabilities can be extended with additional plug-ins.
Evolution can be compared to Microsoft Outlook. The program combines several tools for correspondence, planning, time management. The program is very convenient, I recommend you to try it.
Firework - web applications as programs
Firework - A very handy program for turning web applications and websites into standalone programs. Firework is oriented on convenient and fast launching of web applications, their instant readiness for work, convenient work with windows and multiple accounts in services.
With Firework, sites can be launched using hotkeys, from the taskbar or from the main window. I use this program on Windows for convenient work with Google Docs and Keep. I simply place the icon of a separate web application in the taskbar and launch Google docs without a browser in one click, very convenient. Firework is also available for Linux.
KDE Connect - synchronization with smartphone

KDE Connect allows you to:

Etcher - bootable USBs
And lastly I will tell you about a program for creating bootable USB drives from image files - Etcher. This is an extremely simple utility to make a bootable USB flash drive with Windows or any Linux distribution. The program is devoid of any settings, just select the image, select the flash drive and you're done. Etcher is available for Linux, Windows and Mac systems.
